Our History

Reverend Wallace H. Lucky, Founding Pastor

The Center Hill Church was born out of a sincere desire to reach souls with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Reverend Lucky, supported by his wife and 5 sons, preached wherever the opportunity presented itself but his burden was for the community in which he lived.

Revival with reverend Kenneth Phillips at the old Center Hill School before the church was built.

As a consequence he asked, and received permission to use the Masonic Lodge at Shucktown as a gathering place to witness and to worship. Encouraged by the response received, the vision for an Apostolic, Jesus name church was conceived and a search began for a permanent place of worship. The search ended with an acre of land being donated by Reverend Lucky’s mother, Miss Fannie Kate Martin. A small tin top house in the Martin community was donated by his brother, David Lucky, torn down and moved through the generosity of Mr. Willy Doener and sons to the new location in Center Hill.

With the help of his five sons as well as Brother Edwin Barker, and others, many cold nights were spent restoring the building to a usable condition. With the addition of light fixtures and wiring donated by Mr. Tommy Blizzard, and the assistance of a faithful few members, the Pentecostal Church of Center Hill became a reality in the summer of 1969. Services were held in their home until the completion of the new church building. There were about 15 members. This number increased rapidly until a record of 68 was reached in 1970. After several years it was evident more room was needed so a new auditorium was built.

With congregational assistance and donated labor, the new sanctuary was completed in 1979. A fellowship hall was added in 1985, and Sunday school rooms added in 1989. As for the future, the goal of Center Hill Church remains the same as in the beginning. That is to reach souls with the gospel of Jesus Christ and His kingdom. We are proud of the effort’s in supporting North American Missions, Global Missions, and the many souls which Have been baptized and receive the Holy Ghost through the prayers and dedication of the congregation of Center Hill Pentecostal Church.
